UNEP SRI2021: Global Environmental Monitoring Systems/ Oceans

Towards an integrated Global Environment Monitoring System for Oceans – Aspiring to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 14: to “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”
The GEMS/Oceans event is a “kick-off” session at the Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress 2021 (SRI2021 – Future Earth) and will discuss and appraise cutting edge approaches for assessing the state of the ocean globally and also offer an opportunity to influence the way forward. As an interactive session it will encourage inputs from its partners, stakeholders, and audience, with the scope to provide a background and conceptual framework for the co-design of a Global Oceans Monitoring System that aims to be innovative and transformational.
The speaker line up includes Pierre Bahurel, representing Mercator Ocean International and the Copernicus Marine Service. Maria Hood, the G7 Future of the Seas and Oceans EU Coordinator a, hosted by Mercator Ocean International as part of EU4OceanObs, will participate in a panel session.
